Coaxial speakers reproduce a wide range of audio frequencies by combining a midrange woofer and tweeter into one door speaker. Factory car audio systems usually include either 6.5″ or 6″ by 9″ coaxial door speakers. Common sizes make replacing your vehicle’s factory door speakers an easy and affordable do-it-yourself car audio upgrade.
This “door swap” project involves removing the door panels and factory speakers. Once you have the old speakers removed, simply replace them with the new ones. Not all door speakers are coaxial. Some models have a component speaker set in the front and coaxial speakers in the rear doors. If your door speakers don’t have the smaller tweeter in the middle, your vehicle may have a component set. If you’re not sure, look for small speakers mounted in the dash or pillars. Confirm your door speaker type, and dimensions to make sure you choose the correct speakers for your project.
